GARATU: GRANTS FOR TEACHERS IN THE TRILINGUAL PROJECT

Yesterday the new call for GARATU courses 2011-2012 was published on www.hezkuntza.net (BOPV 09/05/2011). There are many English courses, but some of them are specially addressed to teachers from schools involved in the Trilingual project (teachers from experimental groups and other teachers at school). Read the call carefully because it seems that teachers from private schools cannot apply for courses abroad. Deadline: May 20

1.- full GARATU offer and call: Spanish - Basque
2.-GARATU for MET teachers

Interactive 3D model of Solar System and night sky

An interesting Website for those teaching Science in English.
http://www.solarsystemscope.com/#
(Excerpt from the website)
Solar System Scope is Flash based 3D model of Planets of Solar System and the Night Sky.

The Model consists of 3 main Views (Heliocentric, Geocentric and Panaromatic), including:
Precise Positions of all Celestial Objects according to NASA Calculations
Schematic Distances and Sizes for better understanding of Planet Surfaces and Motions
• a unique feature to Drag Planets through their Orbits
• a lot of interesting Settings which allow you to Observe particular Motions and Events
Distance Calculator to measure distances between Planets even while in motion
Earth Observatory set-up with which you can watch Celestial Happenings on your own Night Sky
  Astronomy for Everybody.

Kids play with Planets while Discovering Universe. Our youngest regular visitors are only 7-8 years old. Many Teachers use our model as a practical Source of Education and with SSS they are able to show and simply explain happenings in our Solar System.

Working on listening strategies

Here you are a couple of videos that can give you some tips on listening strategies.
The first one talks about strategies such as paying attention to body language, words or tone used by the speaker. Can you think of a way of integrating these strategies in your listening activities?

Strategies for Improving Listening Skills —powered by eHow.com

The second video is about  a Year 9 class at School B discussing the elements of good listening, using modelling, pupil discussion, exploratory talk and practice.

Getting teachers collaborating for the integration of language and subject

During our last meeting we dealt with listening strategies and we  did an activity based on a recording from www.factworld.info, regarding the collaboration among subject and language teachers. We tried to "kill two birds with one stone" as both topics are very significant for tthose involved in this project. You can listen to the whole recording by addressing to the the section "Café CLIL " at www.factworld.org or by clicking on the icon below
